Following the latest travel restrictions issued by the Norwegian government relating to the novel coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic, FWD Group [“FWD”] has made the decision to withdraw FWD Team Asia’s place in the North Pole Marathon 2020. The health, safety and security of participants is of primary importance, so it is with deep regret that FWD will not attend the event this year.
Tim Oliver, FWD Group Chief Customer and Marketing Officer, said:
“FWD has been planning to attend the North Pole Marathon for the fourth year but inevitably due to the situation, attendance is no longer possible. Given the current rapid spread of COVID-19, the priority must be everyone’s health and safety and it has become global practice for social distancing and ceasing of non-essential travel.
I’d like to thank FWD Team Asia, who are a hugely dedicated team of runners who have been training solidly for twelve months to raise money for charities across Asia. FWD remains committed to the North Pole Marathon and our plan is to be there in 2021 – stronger and more determined than ever.”
As part of this year’s campaign, FWD had also introduced a new initiative to help in the preservation of the environment. Working with EcoMatcher, an Asia reforestation enterprise, FWD although not going to the Pole, will continue with its commitment to plant 5000 trees across Asia to offset the carbon footprint for attending the marathon.
